Lowood Shire Council 1912-1916

ESTABLISHMENT:

Lowood was originally sited on the boundaries of three shires – Walloon, Tarampa and Esk. The Lowood Shire was formed on 19 January 1912, Lowood Shire was created out of all three and parts of Laidley. The election of members was held in March 1912 and the first meeting held on Wednesday 27 March 1912 at 12 noon.

Lowood Shire was abolished in 1916.

Matthew Kavanagh died 22 March 1924 aged 48 years, he is buried at the Glamorgan Vale Cemetery.

Matthew Owen Kavanagh was a prominent businessman and public official. He was Chairman of Walloon Shire Council until 1911, Chairman of Lowood Shire Council 1912-13 and Esk Shire councillor 1917-21.

Otto Theodor Sakrzewski

1916 until abolition

Mr Sakrzewski died on 9 December 1954 aged 73 years. His memorial is at Mt Thompson Gardens and Crematorium, Brisbane.
He owned a general store in Lowood and was also an auctioneer. In 1924, Mr Sakrzewski and his family moved to Brisbane, where he operated a successful general store and merchant business.
