SOMERSET kids are spoiled for choice with plenty of activities on these autumn School Holidays.
Somerset Regional Council’s School Holiday Program kicks off on Tuesday, 8 April with the Mad Hatters Tea Party held at Clock Park, Lowood from 9am to 12pm.
Somerset Mayor Jason Wendt said the free, family-friendly event promised a fun morning for all.
“There will be plenty of games and activities to keep the kids entertained, and information stalls tailored to young families,” Cr Wendt said.
“Don’t forget, prizes will be awarded to children for the best hat and most creative costume – we can’t wait to see what the community comes up with this year.”
Then at 10am on Wednesday, 9 April, the Smashing Bumpkins are bringing a family-friendly bush dance like no other to the Somerset Civic Centre, 35 Esk Hampton Road.
Cr Wendt said the bush dance would include Aussie bush dance classics and hits from Tina Turner, AC/DC, Michael Jackson and more.
“We’re excited to see the community skipping, spinning and clapping at the Somerset Civic Centre,” Cr Wendt said.
“Tickets are only $10 for adults, $5 for 5-to-12-year-olds, and we have free entry for four years and under.”

Later that week, the Esk Roller Disco is coming to the Somerset Civic Centre car park.
“Strap on your skates or blades and join council for a free night of roller fun from 5pm to 8pm on Saturday, 12 April,” Cr Wendt said.
“First timers, professional skaters and anyone looking to have a good time rolling with friends is welcome to the party.”
The event, hosted by Roller Dance Australia and funded by council, provides some free roller skate and roller blade hire with a variety of sizes available.
Participants are reminded to wear their own safety gear and long socks, and are welcome to bring their own skates and blades.
“This event is always popular and it’s great to see the community come together at the Somerset Civic Centre’s improvised outdoor roller rink,” Cr Wendt said.
“There will be food and drinks available for purchase, including a barbecue and ice cream.”
Cr Wendt said the second week of holidays would involve sport activities across the region.
“The Somerset Sports Smash will start on Monday, 14 April with netball, basketball, touch footy, futsal and gymnastics in the Fernvale Indoor Sports Centre,” Cr Wendt said.
“Then on Tuesday, 15 April we have netball, basketball, volleyball, futsal and touch at Toogoolawah State High School.
“On Wednesday, 16 April there’s netball, volleyball, touch, league and gymnastics at the Kilcoy Indoor Sports Centre.”
Activities will be held from 9am to 12pm for ages 5 to 11, and 2pm to 5pm for ages 12 to 17.
There’s even more in stall with activities at Somerset Libraries including glass jar painting, Easter crafts, pipe cleaner monsters, model volcanoes, and sock puppets.
