Somerset Regional Council Weekly Highlights - 6 December 2024
Support Our Somerset this Christmas
Support Our Somerset this Christmas
This Christmas, consider buying local.
Get involved with Somerset Regional Council’s buy local campaign ‘Support Our Somerset’ by shopping with our incredible local retailers.
Whether you need gifts, decorations or food, you’ll be surprised to find what’s available closer to home.
Somerset Mayor Jason Wendt encouraged the community to consider small businesses when planning for Christmas.
“When you shop local, you’re doing more than just making a purchase,” Cr Wendt said.
“Every dollar you spend locally helps create jobs and strengthens our community.
“Local shopping also means less transportation and packaging, helping to protect our beautiful Somerset region.”

Check your dog registration details
Are your dog registration details up to date?
Somerset dog owners can expect an SMS message from 9 to 18 December as a reminder to update dog registration details online.
Somerset Regional Council introduced a three-year dog registration period from 1 July 2023 to 30 June 2026.
Council offers a discount for future registration periods if your dog is desexed and you can provide a certificate.
If your address or phone number has changed since the last registration renewal, phone Council on 5424 4000 or email mail@somerset.qld.gov.au
Rates auction cancellation
Somerset Regional Council cancelled a rates auction which was advertised for 28 November.
Somerset Mayor Jason Wendt said the auction was cancelled shortly after Council received the final payment for the three properties listed.
“We appreciate the understanding of anyone affected by the cancellation,” Cr Wendt said.
“We are grateful no properties needed to be auctioned on this occasion, thanks to the full payment of outstanding rates and associated legal costs.
“These auctions are always a measure of last resort, and we are pleased this situation was resolved amicably.”
Stay prepared, stay safe this storm season
Storm season is here and Somerset Regional Council has several tools to ensure you and your family are prepared for a disaster.
Somerset Mayor and Local Disaster Management Group Chair Jason Wendt said it was everyone’s responsibility to stay up-to-date on natural disasters.
“You can visit Council’s Disaster Dashboard for real-time updates on severe weather warnings, power outages, and even images from flood cameras,” Cr Wendt said.
“You can even download a flood certificate to better understand the flood risk of your property.”

Cr Wendt also urged residents to sign up for the Somerset Early Warning Network (EWN).
“By signing up for the EWN you can receive timely alerts for severe weather in your area,” Cr Wendt said.
“It's free, quick and easy and could make all the difference in an emergency.
“Don't wait until it's too late, make sure you're prepared with the information you need to stay safe.”
