Major upgrades for Somerset sport hubs on the way

Two key Somerset sporting facilities will receive a huge boost

TWO key Somerset sporting facilities will receive a huge boost thanks to $11 million in upgrades.

The Toogoolawah Swimming Pool and Kilcoy Indoor Sports Centre will both receive significant upgrades that will transform the precincts.

Somerset Regional Council secured almost $5.5 million in competitive funding for the projects under the Queensland Government 2024-27 South East Queensland Community Stimulus Program (SEQCSP).

Somerset Mayor Jason Wendt said the two significant projects would provide enormous community benefits.

“Council is thrilled to be able to provide our community with enhanced recreational facilities,” Mayor Wendt said.

“The upgrades at the Toogoolawah Swimming Pool will open up the facility to people with mobility issues and include a ramp and stairway access, similar to the recent improvements at the Lowood Swimming Pool.

“The pool will be upgraded from a six-lane pool to an eight lane 25 metre facility which will markedly improve functionality and accommodate more people.”

The Kilcoy Indoor Sports Centre will undergo major renovations with new health and fitness rooms, expanded gym area and 24-hour access. New carparking, building entry, café and reception will also feature.

“The Indoor Sports Centre at Kilcoy is a major community hub. Expanding and upgrading the facility will address current and future needs,” Cr Wendt said.

“Council is grateful for the support of the Queensland Government for supporting these projects and to Council staff who have worked very hard to develop these grant applications.

“The staggering reality is that Somerset Regional Council has scooped close to 25% of the entire SEQCSP competitive funding pool of $22.26 million which was also open to huge councils including Brisbane, Gold Coast, Moreton Bay and Ipswich. We punch well above our weight in securing external funding for the community,” Cr Wendt said.
