SOMERSET Regional Council has proudly launched a new buy local campaign, Support our Somerset – Choose Local, to a national audience.

The campaign was launched on 10 October with a national broadcast on Channel 7s popular breakfast program, Sunrise, highlighting small Somerset businesses.

Somerset Regional Council Mayor Jason Wendt said the new campaign was grassroots and encouraged a very simple but powerful message.

“We need to support Somerset, our community, by choosing local wherever possible,” Cr Wendt said.

“Businesses and residents in Somerset share a profound love for their community, creating a vibrant and supportive atmosphere that makes Somerset truly special and we wanted to share this passion with the nation,” Cr Wendt said.

“The reality is, it’s been a tough few years here in Somerset for our community especially on the back of two floods, a bushfire, a national pandemic and the cost of living crisis, so we know we need to roll up our sleeves and support local now more than ever.”

As part of stage one of the Support our Somerset campaign, about a dozen Somerset businesses were highlighted with more to be highlighted and featured in subsequent stages.

“We want all Somerset businesses to be involved,” Cr Wendt said.

“We want to rally Somerset residents together with a clear call to action, igniting a strong sense of local pride.

“This is a campaign to engage not only locals, but visitors to the region too – connecting people to place and putting local businesses and landmarks on the map.”

As part of the Sunrise broadcasts with personality and weatherman, Sam Mac, Somerset businesses featured included Esk Beef, Brisbane Valley Roasters, Sister Bake Co, Fernvale Bakery, Nash Horse Trekking, Picnic Society, Little Country Lane and M&Co hairdressers.

The new buy local campaign was made possible through assistance provided by the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
