The Good is a major new solo exhibition by artist Anna Louise Richardson whose practice is centred around rural life, embedded in the experience and drama of everyday reality. Working primarily in large scale drawing, Richardson’s work renders realistic scenes that speak strongly to her experience of rural life as a member of a multi-generational farming family.
The Good is the culmination of Richardson’s recent explorations into her layered relationships with the natural world, coloured by love, loss and the complexities of nurturing new life as a young mother.
Her series of life-sized drawings depict familiar and domestic objects that reverberate meaning and reflect moments of connection for her and her family – pillow stacks, beef carcasses, stock pots, gumboots, over-ripe bananas, flyswats, 44 gallon drums, sprouting potatoes. In a world increasingly defined by division and hardship, Richardson’s work points to the necessary act of radical optimism needed to seek goodness in all things.
Award winning artist Anna Louise Richardson has exhibited extensively across Western Australia and nationally including recent exhibitions at Fremantle Arts Centre, Westspace, Melbourne and Maitland Regional Gallery. Her work is held in numerous public and private collections including The Wesfarmers Collection, the Macquarie Group Collection and the City of Busselton.
The Good is curated by Rachel Arndt & Dr Lee-Anne Hall and will tour nationally through Museums & Galleries of NSW from late 2023.
