Material Sound Opening and Ross Manning Performance
Join us on Friday 28 January at 5pm for a glass of wine and live performance by exhibiting artist Ross Manning before celebrating the launch of the Material Sound exhibition.
Material Sound is a multi-form exhibition that draws together six art practitioners, each creating an experience of sound within installations constructed from everyday materials. Handmade instruments and electronics, recycled components, outmoded technologies, fake technologies, imagined sounds, and silences form a series of dynamic installations that challenge the way we think about materiality in a cumulative sound experience.
Material Sound features newly commissioned work by artists Vicky Browne, Pia van Gelder, Caitlin Franzmann , Peter Blamey, Vincent and Vaughan Wozniak O’Connor and Ross Manning, whose work and practice investigates sound and materials within art and performance.
Brisbane based artist Ross Manning will present a new live performance alongside his work, Pixel Points, 2018, in Material Sound at The Condensery on opening night.
Ross Manning’s work draws together everyday household items that produce light and sound. From everyday unpretentious materials such as domestic fans, fluorescent lights, household twine and electronics, Ross creates kinetic sculptures examining our ongoing and increasingly complex relationship with technology. By breaking apart machines and experimenting with their material capabilities, he demystifies their rarefied position and opens up possibilities for sensory experience.
Ross Manning’s practice spans experimental music, new technologies, and immersive installations that often involve the play of light and sound. He has exhibited extensively across Australia and internationally including QAGOMA, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Ljubljana, Slovenia and Auckland Art Gallery, New Zealand.
