RATEPAYERS in Somerset are paying less than residents in other local governments in South East Queensland.

In April 2024, the Department of Housing, Local Government, Planning and Public Works published a comparative report on average residential rates and charges for 2023/2024 by different Councils and localities throughout Queensland.

Somerset Mayor Jason Wendt said each year the department collects information from local governments about key services they provide and publishes it in the Queensland Local Government Comparative Information report.

“The report includes a suite of efficiency, effectiveness and quality-of-service indicators covering the key functional and financial areas of local government.

“This report confirms what most residents already know. Residential rates are lower in Somerset,” Cr Wendt said.

“Council will continue to sustainably manage our finances for the long-term financial benefit of residents.”

The Queensland Local Government Comparative Information report is available at statedevelopment.qld.gov.au/local-government/for-councils/resources/local-government-comparative-reports.
